Day in the life

I will take you through what a day looks like for me in Sydney (actually this is an accumulation of many days but just work with me here).

Wake up 6:20am - be ready by 6:30am.  Yes it takes 10 minutes to get ready before my nanny job starts down the hall - its a 5 step commute to work.  Rough commute I know, I hope my commute is better when I move to LA. (wishful thinking)

Eat Brekky (Thats what some people call it here).  I have been back on my oatmeal kick again and I am perfectly happy with it.

Have some coffee depending on what the day holds for me.  I only really have coffee once or twice a week but the coffee here is AMAZING.  And pretty. And I like pretty things.

Then its nanny time - I don't post pictures of the little girl I nanny on here because she's not my child so just for privacy I won't post pictures of her.  But you really are missing out because she is adorable.  She loves singing barney songs (raindrops especially) so those songs have come back into my life - I am also okay with that. Good memories purple dinosaur, good memories.

Then its time to take the train to the city or the beach or wherever the train takes me.  This is taking the train to Hillsong church for young adults.  The famous Sydney bridge.  Sorry for the picture quality.  I was trying to sneak a picture so I did not look like a total tourist.  Im sure I give it away that I am a tourist when it takes me 5 minutes to figure out the coins here to pay for something.  Why do they only have coins for $2 or $1 change.  I have a few thoughts for why they give away so many coins here.  1.  They expect everyone to be rich and that $1 or $2 coins is just like our penny - if you drop it then some kid will find it and buy absolutely nothing with it.  Which there is probably some truth there because everything costs so much here.  2.  They want people to get so annoyed with how much their coins weigh that they just give it away or spend it immediately.  The government must be stimulating the economy some how - why not have heavy coins that no one wants.  3.  Actually those are my only two explanations - there is only so much you can say about coins and I think I have said my fair share.

Another view out of the train.  This is on the other side of the bridge (not the opera house)

And this is what I do on the train.  Love the extra time to do what needs to be done!

And then we beach.  Don't mind my non-existant chinese eyes.  It was sunny.  The beach was so fun during.  Not fun after. HELLO SUNBURN!  It's not my fault that I have been locked away in winter for the last 4 months.  That stomach had not seen the light of day for a very long time.

And then we church.  Horrible picture and also this is of colour conference which is an all women conference.  But you get the idea.   Hillsong church has been amazing to see and learn about.  Very different than anything I have experienced before but they are doing a lot of wonderful things here and I am excited that I get to be a part of it.

Thats all for now folks.  Time to get ready for bed for my 6:20am wake up call.  Day in the life of me in this season and I must say its a pretty great day.

Nanny life

The nanny life in Australia is pretty sweet.  I love our morning walks and coffee!  Thankful for the coffee shop nearby.

So the big news in Australia (besides the missing Malaysia flight outside of Perth) is that the LA Dodgers and Arizona Diamondbacks are playing in Australia.  Trying to bring some of Americans favorite past time to Australia.  Don't worry dad I know where my loyalty stands and I brought the hat over to Australia to prove it.

You may think this is San Francisco but nope, these Sydney hills are real my friends.  Ive ran track for years and I still hate hills.  But this view on my morning run makes up for it.  That is the city in the distance, that is how far I am away from the city.

Tonight I am taking the train by myself.  I know God blessed me with many talents, but direction was not one of them.  Wish me luck my friends.  Lets pray I get on the right train and when I have to switch trains I get on the right train as well.  This app should be helpful though.  It tell you what platform to be on and which train and such, it shouldn't be too hard right?  Lets hope so.

Sorry for the delay

In case you thought I was lost at sea, I am not I have made it to Australia and have been loving it for 6 days now.  I have not been updating my blog because I have been really bad at taking pictures.  And by  bad I mean I have taken 3 pictures since I have been here, and they were not all that exciting!

However I am all settled in with my job and I am loving the family I am working with.  It has been such a positive experience so far.

Before I left on the plane with all my massive bags.  Let me tell you lugging those bags through Sydney airport customs and such in 90 degree weather wearing tights and a tank was not an easy task my friends.  We landed super early and so i decided to go to the bathroom with my bags.  Walked in the bathroom and there was NO way I would fit in any stalls with my bags and so I ended up just walking back out.  And by that point I am sweating because it is so hot and I have these massive bags and by the time Ash arrived to pick me up I was a hot mess, literally.  Im sure I was a joy after not seeing each other for 3 months looking my finest.  Just kidding - the first thing I wanted to do was shower after that experience.  Note to self wear less clothes if you enter Australia in the summer time.
Empty seat next to me on the plane was one of the best things ever! I slept 8 hours straight on this baby!

Two story plane - once you fly on these you will never want it any other way!

Oh and my favorite part of Australia right here.

I have been working every week day and just finding my way around.  Two wonderful things about where I live.  The houses and streets are beautiful and so walking around the neighborhood is gorgeous.  Also there is a fresh fruit store about 400 meters away from where I live.  It couldn't get any better than this.  This country is beautiful.  Everywhere we drive there are hills, grass, trees, water, etc. Its amazing. Hopefully I will take more pictures soon.

Also on Sunday I went to Hillsong church for the second time (first time this trip)  It was such an awesome experience because Beth Moore spoke so I was so lucky to see that!!

So far I am just so incredibly happy here and embracing every minute of it.

Getting Impatient

7 days! 7 days I jump on a plane!! (well actually less now but when I started this post it was 7 days).  My next post will most likely be from the airport and then from Australia! I found out I start work the day after I arrive! So I am jumping right in for sure! Packing has stayed the same from my last post but shopping has happened. And now I am worried about my bags weighing too much! We will see after this week. I am trying to wait until after I do laundry this week.

Here is a little picture of what is a definite staple clothing item for me in Australia. America shorts!

Then some cheesecake factory with my mom.  If you know me at all you know that the dessert on the right is my favorite dessert ever.  I would choose it over cake, cupcakes, cookies, candy, etc. any day.  Except rice crispy treats.  Those would be a competition.  I am such a child when it comes to dessert.

And then I babysit.  Look at these shoes.  So cute! I am going to miss this family!
Oh and I thought I should add I was tanning in 80 degree weather on Friday and Saturday.

And then this was Sunday.  Snow/Ice and a Snow day on Monday!  Crazy Texas weather.  Don't mind the parking lot view I was at the Tax place so this is all I had.

Being all cooped up inside has made be extremely impatient and I just want to get to Australia already!
